Speed concerns
The speed of traffic through the parish is an ongoing concern for everyone living and working in Clive.
Community Speed Watch
In collaboration with West Mercia Police, the Parish Council has helped bring together a group of volunteers to start a Community Speed Watch in Clive. Former Parish Councillor, Matt Alexander is the coordinator for the group and we are running sessions from several approved locations throughout the parish.
Volunteers work in teams of 3, and use handheld 'speed guns' to monitor the speed of passing traffic from one of the approved sites at different times of day around Clive. Volunteers log the data, pass it to West Mercia Police, who then send a warning letter to motorists caught exceeding the speed limit. View our first Community Speed Watch update.
It would be enormously helpful to have a couple of extra people on board, as inevitably there will be times when some volunteers may not be available. Read more about Community Speed Watch here.
If you are interested in helping to enforce the speed limit in Clive and make it safer place for everyone, please email Matt Alexander or email the clerk.

Vehicle activated speed signs
Thanks to successful grant applications for grant funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner, the Parish Council has been able to purchase 2 solar-powered Vehicle Activated Speed (VAS) sign. One was installed in 2020, on High Street near Quarry View, and another was installed in 2022 on Station Road. The VAS signs are intended to encourage compliance to the 30 mph speed limit in the parish, by displaying over limit speeds and a Slow Down message to approaching vehicles. The devices also capture speed data of vehicles which will be used to measure the effectiveness of the VAS over time.
It is hoped that this data, along with that collected by the Community Speed Watch group, will help build the case for more police enforcement, and potentially additional funding for further traffic calming measures in Clive.
Councillors aim to download data from the VAS signs quarterly, and we be sharing updates on this in the local newsletter, on the PC website, and with the local police Safer Neighbourhood Team.
You can view the VAS data for the last half of 2022 and the first half of 2023 here:
